46,858 Bundles of Straw: A Commitment to Quality

This large-scale project required a remarkable 46,858 bundles of straw, meticulously selected, prepared, and installed to achieve both structural integrity and visual perfection. Each bundle contributes to the unique charm and authentic texture that define traditional thatching.

Timber Construction: Balustrades and Flooring for Organic Warmth

To further enhance the retreat’s natural appeal, Cape Reed installed:

• 53 metres of timber balustrades
• 134 m² of handcrafted timber flooring

More than 50 m² of wooden posts were also used—transported in four full containers. These timber elements bring warmth, character, and an eco-conscious foundation to the architecture, seamlessly merging with Shanti-Som’s holistic ethos.
